We’ve made tremendous strides since the 1980s. Unimaginably, the internet has transformed every aspect of daily life, from communication to work, industry to entertainment. Phenomenally, breakthroughs in treatments for diseases like HIV and cancer have dramatically improved life expectancy and quality of life. Miraculously, All My Children went off the air.
We forget how awful things were in the 80s. Take one of the most important measures of social progress back then: television. My how things have changed.
One good thing, though, about our information-awash modern age is that we’ve become much more discerning about how we consume content. We’re learning how to consider the source, check for bias, look for evidence, verify information, and understand context. That’s why whenever I hear something new, before I put faith in it, I will see what the experts are saying on Twitter.1
Actually, it’s now called X. X is the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. It was purchased and rebranded by the outlandish media personality formerly known as Elon Musk.
